Samuel Strauss, a land developer who lives in Callaway, is offering a commodity that will protect the buyer’s money for years to come and its value is expected to always increase.

Samuel Strauss has a new business philosophy. No longer is he in business to sell large tracts of beautiful acreage. Now he is offering a commodity that will protect the buyer’s money for years to come and its value is expected to always increase.

The Callaway resident is a developer who is opening a new door in an old house full of doors. He has a dream. And he hopes many others, especially the younger generation, may be thinking along the same line. He practices what he believes and has taken 205 acres and broken it down into11 tracts, each consisting of 15-25 acres. The tracts in Serenity Estates at Burnt Chimney can never be divided. That may be the reason he has only six remaining.

Strauss promotes his new philosophy by asking, “How can you protect your money and keep it safe? “What can you buy that will never go away and is something that nobody can steal? Answers he gives are his selling points.This is the reason his philosophy about land and its development is a total turn-around. “There is only so much of it left and it’s not being made anymore,” he noted. Also, no one can steal or take it and it’s not going to vanish or diminish. “If a person starts with a 20-acre tract, they are guaranteed it will still be 20 acres no matter how many years go by,” he continued. “You can touch it, visit it or even kick it if you choose,” he said with a smile.

Strauss also said no matter if the stock market is up or down, land is always there and will always be needed.He added banks are only $250,000 safe and any interest earned is taxed at the end of the year.“And, you can always build a home on it. Will Rogers said, ‘I’m more interested in the return of my investment the return on my investment,’” Strauss pointed out.

His business card and promotional material proclaims, “Because we care, go green!” In that mode of thinking, Strauss has taken one of the tracts of land in his development for his own.

Being an environmentally friendly person, he has designed a house he will build on his tract of land. Strauss also plans to install an electricity-producing wind turbine near the home. He said he will encourage others within the subdivision to follow suit. “Lead the way by example,” he said. Another dream is to see an energy-producing wind turbine at every house in the subdivision. “I think that would be neat. And I think it fits in nicely with the slogan, because we care go green.”

Strauss said he left the “corporate world” and Manhattan in 1992 for the mountains of Colorado. “Living in the mountains gave me a renewed sense of what life and nature are all about,” he said. But watching developers come in an “destroy the peace and harmony around me for the sake of a ‘buck’ brought purpose back into my life,” he said
“It was then and there that I made a commitment to preserve and protect the land as it was meant to be. The way I knew I could best be able to do this was to become a land developer,” Strauss continued.

He decided to move back east and “found” Franklin County, moving to Callaway more than seven years ago. He got into land development while he was in Colorado and has been in the business for 10 years. “Anymore, I don’t think of land as being real estate. It is land, a thing of ever lasting beauty. All of us should treat it as such. I am happy about the future of the 205 acres in Serenity Estates.

“The beauty of the area will be there long after current and future residents are gone,” Strauss said.
